ARDEN, N.C. (WLOS) — Second graders at Avery’s Creek Elementary School are getting into the Halloween spirit.

“My older students are creating soundtracks, and with Quaver they can decide when they want the music to be suspenseful, or when they want it to be romantic. They can even decide when they want it to be scary,” said their music teacher.

Melody McGarrahan — or Ms. Mel — is piloting a program that uses an interactive music website called Quaver’s Marvelous World of Music. She says it allows kids to experience different types of music from around the world.

“I like to explore music, and I like how I feel about music,” said Madison, a second grader.

McGarrahan says the program brings school music lessons into the digital age.

She hopes that kids using the website will be inspired to learn to play an instrument.

She also says there is professional development for teachers.
