With our brand-new QComposer Lite, students can create their own songs with custom tempos and notes and listen to their creations!

Have you ever wondered if the next Mozart or Beethoven is in your class? You don’t have to wonder anymore, thanks to our new Quaver Creatives! We’ve simplified your favorite Quaver Creatives to better support the learning experience. These activities serve as great learning tools for younger students who may need a more simple introduction to composing.

Today we’ll explore one of these powerful creatives, QComposer Lite. This creative will give students the ability to create simple melodies and chords.

Let’s start by clicking on the Creatives icon on your Teacher Dashboard:

Compose Your Piece

One of the first things you’ll notice is the note selection box in the middle of your screen. This is a great place to start!

From here, you can select a note value and drag it up to the staff. On some versions of QComposer Lite, you may notice that the box contains a different selection of notes.

As you drag your quarter note to the staff, three things will happen:

  1. It will hover above your mouse arrow so you can accurately place the note.
  2. A green line will appear to show you which line it will be placed on.
  3. A gray box will indicate the division of the beat the note will be placed in.

To place the note on your selected line, release it. If you want to remove a note, you can simply drag it off the staff and it will disappear!

Once you’re happy with your piece, press the yellow play button to listen to it. The music will stop at the end of the last measure with a note in it.  Click the STOP button to return to the beginning of the piece.

Customize Your Piece

Change the tempo of the piece from Moderato to Presto or Largo by clicking the pop up triangle to the right of the tempo.

Add sharps or flats by selecting the desired icon and dragging the note you wish to add it from the note selection box to the staff. To revert back to a natural, click the sign before you place your next note.

You can paginate through the piece with the yellow arrows on the right side of your screen. The box lets you know which measures you are looking at.

You can start over at any point and return your piece to its original state by clicking the CLEAR button!
